AirPods are the most personal wireless headphones available in the market today. Apart from its compact design and ease of use, what makes AirPods stand out is its ability to sense your activity and lock itself when not being used. The integration of Siri, tap-to-talk functionality and other features like optical sensors have made AirPods a smarter pair of wireless earphones. But with all these technologies packed into tiny devices, there is always scope for improvement. However, we have also noticed some limitations while using AirPods: How far can they be away from iPhone before breaking the connection? How much distance do they need to connect again? How long does it take to reconnect? While the above questions are fairly insignificant but still worth mentioning if Apple wishes to improve its product in the future.

How Far Can Airpods Be Away From Phone?

The maximum distance AirPods can be away from your iPhone or iPad and still work is about 30 feet (9 meters). The AirPods will automatically stop playing music when they’re more than 30 feet away from your devices. And if you try to use them when they’re too far away, an audio prompt will let you know that they need to be closer to your device.

How To Fix Broken Connection Behaviour While Using Airpods

Reset AirPods

Hold the earbuds in your hand with the Lightning port facing down before putting them back into your ears. Do not touch the charging case, Lightning port, or any part of your iPhone while doing this step. And try not to touch any part of the earbuds while they’re in your ears. This will ensure that you won’t accidentally brush up against them during this process.

Unpair AirPods from your iPhone by resetting the pairing mode on your iPhone or iPad

You can always manually unpair and pair them again by following these steps: The AirPods should be paired with one device at a time, but if you are having problems pairing them with your iPhone or iPad, it’s best to reset the pairing mode on that device so you can pair them again. To do so: Open Settings from your Home Screen Connected Devices list and tap Pair New Device Click Select Pairing Mode on iPhone or Select Bluetooth on iPad Tap Unpair From Devices Enter Apple ID and password if prompted Tap Remove Device When prompted to select another device, tap Don’t Ask Again Tap OK Tap OK once more when asked to confirm uncover When prompted with “Unpairing AirPods” prompt, tap Unpair Now And Do Not Remove When prompted with “Confirm Disconnect,” tap Yes Yes If a red exclamation message appears on the screen

The pairing mode

Press and hold the “Pair” button on the bottom of your AirPods case until a red slider appears. Then slide it down to the left so that “OFF” appears in place of “ON”. Select Pair and enjoy the freedom of unpaired AirPods again.

Deactivate wireless features

This is a very easy method to enable wireless connectivity. All you need to do is go to Settings > Bluetooth > and scroll down until you see ‘Bluetooth’. From there, toggle off both connected AirPods by selecting ‘Airplane Mode. You can also change it from just turning off Bluetooth in general like this: “Turn Bluetooth Off” instead of just airplane mode if you prefer your headphones not connecting when you activate or deactivate Bluetooth for your iPhone or iPad altogether. Every time you activate airplane mode, both Airpods will be connected to your iPhone/iPad again automatically. While traveling, turn on only Wi-Fi in the “Wi-Fi Settings” (where available).

Check if both devices are connected to iCloud

iCloud should always be able to recognize both AirPods, so it should not matter if they are not connected directly to Apple’s servers (as long as they are close enough to each other). Check if both devices are connected by going into the Apple Music app on your iPhone / iPad and selecting your device there. The AirPods should say in the list that they are connected when running an initial setup on them or have just been paired for the first time with an iPhone or iPad running iOS 10 or later. If one device is online but not paired with the other, make sure both devices have an internet connection and try once more failing which you may need further support from our team at Gooroo!

Why Is It Hard To Reconnect Airpods?

The proximity sensor is not activated

The proximity sensor on AirPods is the key to making it work. However, the fact that you have to press a button in order to activate it, may prove to be a big obstacle when you are in hurry. The problem here is that you need to push the button several times if the device has been called away from your ear. This can actually make you lose your train of thought.

Too much distance between the AirPods and iPhone

We have already discussed how far AirPods can reach from iPhone during our above article, but what happens when they are more than 20 feet away? Well, there seems to be no answer to this question – but as we mentioned earlier, AirPods make use of proximity sensing technology and will connect wirelessly after sensing its presence nearby again by listening for its heartbeat through bone conduction technology.

High-impedance connectivity

AirPods cannot be used if Bluetooth is too low. Its high impedance feature makes it suitable for huge spaces or areas where no new devices are added, especially over an extended period of time. However, in order to connect your AirPods again, you must wait for a few minutes before you can start using them again.

How Can Airpods Be Used While Charging?

  1. When AirPods are plugged into an iPhone or iPad charger, iPhone immediately detects the pair of AirPods in the case. It then analyzes the device and detects the proper pairing. The detection process takes roughly half a second and at this point, the AirPods are ready to be used again.
  2. For example, while charging Apple Watch Series 3, we can see in Notification Center that it is connected to the iPhone as well as paired with AirPods. And when we open either Notification Center or Control Centre on iPad and see that wireless connectivity is available for Apple Watch Series 3 (even though both devices are not yet paired), we can easily enable it by tapping on the AirPods icon in Control Centre for a few seconds. And then we confirm sharing of notifications and commands via AirPods by acknowledging them through Siri or clicking on Apple’s ‘Hey Siri’ option from Control Centre.
  3. When an iPhone has been recharged a certain amount of time and turns over usually to be charged again, the battery icon will appear somewhere in Notification Center indicating that charging has been completed with “AirPods” noted next to it as well as giving details about battery capacity at any given moment (i.e., 60% on our phone when no headphones have been inserted). After powering off iPhone again and plugging it back in, Apple starts with its first-time pairing process after which the AirPod icon appears normally alongside other icons like let. And again we can use our AirPods flawlessly to talk using Siri.
  4. During charging, AirPods are not used and in most cases, they remain on standby mode until they are needed again.
  5. It is very important to note that AirPods will not charge when being used with other devices as well as chargers except iPhone which has wireless charging capability. So make sure your AirPods are connected only to your iPhone and never to other devices or chargers while charging via a wireless Charging Module or USB-C hub.

Conclusion

From the above discussion, it is evident that AirPods are wireless headphones that are designed to be used with iPhone and iPad products. The main features of these are that they are easy to handle, and they can be paired with up to two devices using Bluetooth technology. All in all, AirPods are the best wireless earphones available in the market today. With the integration of Siri, tap-to-talk functionality, and optical sensors, they have made themselves even smarter. However, despite all these features and advantages, there is always scope for improvement.
